I don’t know about you, but Spring Break went by very quickly for me and now it is back to the next 8-9 week grind of school. If you are a college student, and you haven’t figured this out already, take it from me that unless you are the morning sunshine, 8 am classes are not your friend. Now, morning classes are not bad altogether; I’ve taken plenty of them. But, 8 am classes, especially every SINGLE day, is very tiring and exhausting. On the plus side, morning classes allow you to go ahead and get your classes for the day over with, so the afternoons are free in order to go to work, do homework, take a nap, watch Netflix or get off the couch and hit the gym. Especially for athletes, morning classes are a major plus! There are quite a few morning classes I have taken where the majority of the students are athletes, and let me tell you, they do a great job when it comes to the possibility of negotiating some assignments. But, afternoon classes have their pros and cons as well. For starters, you get to sleep in and get a slow start to your day by cooking up some pancakes and take your time drinking your morning coffee or even catch the morning shift at work. Homework can be done right before class, depending on what it is, allowing for you to stay up later hanging out with friends the night before. However, your afternoons are filled with classes and it can make you feel like you’re back in high school all over again, finishing around 3:30, 4 or even later. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable, go with it. Here are some of my college survival tips and tricks:
+ Quizlet is a lifesaver!! (and easy to share with friends/classmates)
+Don’t be afraid to talk to your professors if you’re confused or need help
+Make sure your alarms are set for the right time…and set as many as you feel like you will need to find motivation to get up
+Group your classes together so you won’t have to much downtime in between (you won’t have to get up from your nap and come back to another class)
+It may take time to find your friend group; don’t be overwhelmed or upset! (Try looking for clubs or other areas of interest you have to meet new people)
+Always keep your Student ID with you when roaming around campus
+Take a leap of faith and try something new (food, sport, or hobby)
+Make it a memorable time because it will go by VERY fast!
Got any other tips or tricks to share with me? Leave them in the comments below!
I totally agree with the 8ams. Waking up for them is the worst, but once they are over, it is nice to have the rest of your day ahead of you. I also agree with talking to your professors. Almost always, they are understanding and willing to help.
