We all need to make some money during the college years, because, well lets face it, there’s a reason the saying is a broke college student. There are several different ways to go about finding a job within a reasonable distance from the school. My first suggestion would be to visit your on-campus career services center. This is the point of contact that many outside organizations and community members turn to when they are looking for someone to fulfill their needs. Other suggestions would be to look at summer camp offers if you are wanting a more seasonal job. But, back to career services...for example, in the fall of 2017, this is where I went in order to find accessible jobs and see what the application requirements would be. From there, I have been working as a tutor/babysitter for the past two years for the same lady, who only lives about fifteen minutes from campus. The job is not very time consuming and is only three to four afternoons a week for about three hours a day. Through this job, it has given me easier access to the grocery stores and such that are in her area that are not found around campus, such as Aldi. Each day brings a new experience from helping with homework to shopping adventures every so often. Other jobs for different businesses are also located through career services, or you could always become a Lyft or Uber driver. There are also job opportunities on campus through work study and if you meet all of the qualifications necessary according to your FASFA. Having a job while you are in college, I believe, gives a better sense of time management and responsibility because not only are you having to look out for your classes, homework and social life, but you are taking on more of the adultiness that will come around soon enough. This is not to say that if you are a college student and do not have a job that you are not responsible or know how to manage your time. Each person has different circumstances that influence whether or not a job will be involved during your college career. It just gives you time to enhance your resume and get ready to enter the real adult world soon enough! Have you had a job at some point while you’ve been in college? Let me know in the comments below!
I had a job working after school nearby for about a year and it was really fun!
