College…a place for new beginnings and four (or five or six) years that will strongly define the person you will become. So, when it came to college, the process of finding one was not as easy as I thought it would be. But, after touring around ten schools in various states, I finally found the one to call home for the next three and a half years. Do I still get phone calls and Skype messages from my parents? Of course I do! That is just part of going to school half way across the country from them. Do I miss my family and some of the events that happen back home? For sure! I am very close with them, so there are times the distance can make it hard. Alright, alright, enough with the sappy stuff. You’re here because adulting is not always the easiest thing, but it can bring about some of the most humorous times of your life. So, adulting with this first step of officially stepping out on your own is a big one to take. But, now that you’ve taken the leap, you’ve got to learn how to fly. You’ve chosen your school, your first tentative major (trust me it will probably change at least once or twice) and are moving into your dorm room. If you’re like me, I chose the dorm closest to the student union building, which housed our campus cafeteria, for obvious reasons. Besides, it was also a great way to meet new people when you’re “studying” in those lounge areas. And Chick-fil-A was in the downstairs area, so Fry-day was totally a thing. But, I digress. Hopefully, your new school and home has a welcoming type of event for the first few days you are there before classes begin. This allows you to meet other students and get to know the campus, so you won’t be wandering around the first day asking where the science building is. All of a sudden, you don’t have class all day every day. You can discover these amazing things called NAPS!! And believe me you’ll want them, especially if you have 8 am classes. But, it is also your responsibility to get up and go to class. Your momma isn’t going to be yelling for you to get up and get a move on. That is your alarm’s job now. As you are about to embark on this new phase of life (cause you were not the one who tripped at your high school graduation...or maybe you were...) welcome to the world and stepping out into this new adventure that awaits.

Hi KB! I love the theme of your website! What a common struggle that college students go through. Chick-fil-A fries and naps are by far the best things about being in college. I love that you visited so many different places before you decided on UMHB! I can't wait to hear more tips and tricks about college!

This is so very true and I know I went through almost every thing that you mentioned, and thankfully I was not the one to trip at my high school graduation. I love what this post is going to be about and can't wait to read more of what you have to say. I think that this is a topic that many people are going to be able to relate to, so it should be fun to see what you have to say!

What an accurate post! Learning how to be an adult can take a toll on you mentally and physically. I've always been the type to embark new phases of life because that is the sole purpose of life is to grow into different stages of your life. I love to get out my comfort zone because it challenges me to become an adult and react differently in situations. This post was a great way to start off your blog can not wait to see what you have in store.

This is great! It's funny how when we're very young naps are the WORST, but as you get older you will do anything to get one. Although, I am in a different boat when it comes to our adulting-stages I can empathize with this because in a lot of ways coming back to finish college is similar to the first time I did it. I remember the emotions and uncertainties of striking out on my own. As I look back it though the lens of experience now, although I can identify things I could have done differently I certainly wouldn't trade the experiences in. This time around I am older and have children of my own so the step of…
